Christine & Victor

The Big Question

Victor and I met online in 2011. From the very moment I laid eyes on him I knew he was someone special. Victor planned a trip at the end of August 2012 and proposed at a gorgeous vineyard at Gray Monk Estate Winery at the heart of British Columbia's Okanagan Valley on August 30th.  It was a complete surprise as he came down on one knee and asked me to be his wife.  What I found very touching was the gesture that he did before the proposal which was to formally ask for my hand in marriage from both my parents.  He met with my mother and father individually to ask for permission to marry me.

Shop Till You Drop

I bought my wedding dress at Bisou Bridal in October 2012 for my August 2013 wedding. After going to over eight bridal shops in Vancouver, New Westminster and Calgary and trying on over 50 dresses, I never expected to find "the one" at this beautiful bridal store. On that magical October Saturday morning, I went with my maid of honor and bridesmaid to Bisou. I was helped by Colleen (who I found out later was the shop owner). She asked me what exactly I was looking for and after telling her my vision, she gave me three dresses to try. I tried the other favourite dresses on first. They were pretty, but not that special. But when I tried the Augusta Jones Alaina dress, my face lit up and it literally felt like the world stopped moving, and Colleen asked me "Do you see yourself walking down the aisle in this dress?"... With tears in my eyes, I said "Yes!" - I looked around me and there was not a single dry eye, my girlfriends were in tears. Even other women at the shop I didn't know congratulated me for finally finding my dress. I never thought this beautiful and magical experience would ever happen to me, but it did. I've always thought brides on the "Say Yes to the Dress" show were all just acting and overly emotional. But I was caught off-guard when it actually happened to me.

I will forever be grateful to the Augusta Jones dress and Colleen for that unforgettable wonderful experience and I always have that story to tell to family, friends, and my (soon-to-arrive) daughter. From that day on, I believe that I did not pick my wedding dress -- the dress actually picked me.

The Big Day

The wedding day was simply magical and beautiful from beginning to end.  I literally felt like a princess with my beautiful dress and accessories.  During our pictorial, we went around a few parks and public areas. There were probably about four or five little girls in total who came up to me just wanting to get an up close look as I think most of them did think that i was a princess.  I even heard one of them told her Mom "Look Mom, a Princess!"

The wedding was very elegant and traditional. The ceremony was held in a Catholic Cathedral. I wore a removable Augusta Jones lace bolero at the ceremony because the rector was very strict in exposing the bride's shoulders. The reception was at the Fairmont Pacific Rim in downtown Vancouver.  The decor was absolutely stunning with abundant fresh cut flowers, crystal stands and teal accents.

At the end of the evening, my husband and I paid tribute to my late grandparents who helped raise me and danced to their song "Eternally" (from 1952) as our First Dance song. As we were dancing, we had a slideshow of my grandparents flashing in the background - everyone in the room were extremely emotional.

Words of Wisdom

Don't sweat the small stuff on your wedding day.  Relax, enjoy and savour every single moment of your special day with your husband, family and friends as they day will go by so fast.
