Anna & Matt

Love at First Sight

Matt and I met while both out with friends one Saturday night. Neither of us had planned to be out that evening, but luckily our friends talked us into a night out on the town. Not knowing I was already eyeing him in the crowd, Matt approached me and offered to buy me a drink. We immediately connected and took our conversation to the pizza shop next door.  We grabbed a bite, and then cozied up on a park bench where we talked well into the late night hours. The next day we went on our first date, the start of many more wonderful times together.

The Big Question

A couple years later on the anniversary of the day we met, Matt proposed. We had a very private dinner where we were the only ones in the restaurant. Then, we went for a walk down the area canal. It wasn't cold, but Matt was insistent on keeping his biggest jacket with him. When we happened upon this one particular ornate bridge, Matt got down on one knee, reached into his big coat, held out the ring and asked for my hand.

A Dream Location

When looking for a venue for us to be wed, we knew we wanted to find a place that was representative of us. The second we stepped into the old mansion at Antrim 1844 Country House Hotel, we knew this was the place for us. My adoration of all things vintage and Matt's love of history were met by an intimate estate full of carefully adorned rooms authentic to the pre-civil war era. Pristine gardens with gorgeously detailed fountains only enhanced this feel of traveling back in time. Its historic charm was the perfect backdrop to our special day.

Shop Till You Drop

In searching for my wedding dress, it was important to me to choose one that was not only timeless, but also evoked the same feeling as the location. I tried on a number of dresses before finding the one. I found myself loving the bust of one, or admiring the scalloped lace trim of another, but none were quite the perfect package. Then, I laid my eyes on a true gem. When the dress was pulled out from the crowd of white gowns, I immediately noticed the exquisite lace detail. The sample fit me without any adjustment, just as if it was meant to be. As a bride, you always hear that you'll know when you've found the one. This was true of my guy and it was also true of the dress. A perfect match all around!

The Perfect Day

Once the big day arrived, I knew I'd made the perfect choice. Everything was coming together so beautifully and I love seeing my dress hang against the ornate vintage wallpapers. We were married outside in the rose garden on a super windy Saturday (which made for great photos) with just a few flowers around us; a curtain hanging in the archway. The entire venue really speaks for itself so we only infused a few details to compliment the day. My bridesmaids wore charcoal chiffon and carried a mix of flowers in white, pink and mint. Our letterpress invitations designed and made by my bridesmaid Kelly, featured stunning typography, complete with mint-colored sides done by hand. The design was replicated in our DIY chalkboard ceremony program, table number frames, place cards, and cigar bar for after dinner. Our Gatsby-style wedding cake featured a charming cake topper from the 1940s. Vintage lanterns and mercury glass vases sat atop the tables. It was a beautiful scene for a wonderful party.

Following the reception, we continued the celebration inside the mansion at the quaint, yet masculine, Pickwick Pub. The old parlor feel was absolutely perfect and cozy, with all of our guests huddled together, laughing and having a great time. I don't recall if the wood-burning fireplace was blazing, but there was a beautiful aroma of smoke and ash in the background.

Wise Words

It truly was a magical day that I'll never forget, in part due to a piece of advice I received months prior: Take a few minutes with your new husband to step outside the crowd and enjoy the view of all those there to celebrate you and your special day. In doing this, we noticed that our family and friends were glowing just as much as we were, and I'll never forget the feeling. That's what it's all about. The day goes by faster than you can imagine. Don't worry about everything being perfect, just soak it all in. Every second.
