Kelly & Paul

The Big Question

Paul proposed at the National Arboretum in Washington, DC the day after we celebrated my 24th birthday. It took a lot of convincing for him to get me moving (since I might've overindulged the night), but after the majorly stressful afternoon (for him), he completely shocked me and made me the happiest girl in the world.

I took my mom, sister, best friend, and grandmother with me to Ava Clara Couture Bridal Boutique in Virginia Beach, VA. We were all hyped up on coffee and excited to finally do a 'fun wedding chore'. I knew pretty much what I wanted when I walked into the dress shop. I told my consultant that I wanted something with lace and an awesome back. She brought in 4 or 5 dresses to the fitting room that matched my request. The first dress I tried on was the Daphne and I instantly fell in love. Of course I had to try on a couple more, but nothing compared to how I felt in the Daphne. It was everything I wanted and might've been the easiest thing to check off my wedding checklist.

The Perfect Day

My wedding day as a whole was a blur. A fun, overwhelming, stormy blur. It was the best day of my life, but also one of my most stressful. The morning started out great. It was a little cloudy, but we were hopeful about the weather, my bridesmaids were all buzzing with excitement, and all my vendors were showing up as scheduled. We had a blast getting ready and taking pictures with Audrey. Then things started to get hectic.

We had planned to walk over to the venue, but the storm had other plans for us. My dad ended up having to take two trips to the venue with his car filled with bridesmaids and then had to walk each of us into the venue individually with an umbrella. It was kind of a mess. Once we were there it was even more of a blur.

Paul and I had our first look which I am so thankful for. I was pretty anxious about the weather and I needed to see him so that I could remember what our wedding day was actually about. I instantly felt better knowing that no matter how hard it rained, by the end of the day we would be married. Our ceremony was wonderful; short and sweet, but meaningful. Since we did a first look, Paul and I were able to join the cocktail hour. We greeted a lot of our guests and then were formally introduced once the reception started.

Our reception was a blast! We had so much fun dancing with our family and friends. We did have to leave a little early due to the storm, but we certainly did not miss out on any fun! I'm so thankful for our beautiful wedding and for all our amazing friends and family who braved the storm to celebrate with us.

Wise Words

Know what you want before you go looking for a dress AND know your budget. You can definitely find a gorgeous gown within your budget.  For the rest of the wedding, just know you can plan and plan for two years, but you can never predict a hurricane hitting during your wedding; just don't let it rain on your parade!
