Brandon and I are used to spending holidays apart as Brandon works in retail and I’m a nurse, so last Christmas was going to be no different. I planned to spend my Christmas vacation in Kiawah Island, SC with my mom, sister, aunt, cousins and grandparents, while Brandon was in Charlotte working. Little did I know that he would soon be surprising me.
Brandon showed up on December 23 to our beach house and I was so elated to be able to spending Christmas together. We spent Christmas Eve in downtown Charleston with my family going to lunch and a horse carriage ride. When we got back to Kiawah, Brandon asked if I wanted to go on a walk with our dog Lola on the beach.
On the beach, Brandon told me he had one more surprise for me and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was so surprised! Kiawah is such a special place to us.
Shop 'Til You Drop
I had an appointment to try dresses on at J Majors in Charlotte, NC with my mom, sister and bridesmaids for a couple weeks after my cake tasting. But, my mom and I decided to sneak in to the dress shop the day we tasted the cake as it was in the same shopping center. J Majors had a section of sample sale gowns.
My mom and I found a couple for me to try on, but none of them even compared to the Augusta Jones Jan dress. I got married at a museum in downtown Charlotte and I knew the Jan dress would be spectacular for my venue. I paid for the dress and cancelled my upcoming appointment. I had not alterations done to the dress - it was a perfect fit!
The Perfect Day
Brandon and I got married on Sunday, September 4 at the Mint Museum in downtown Charlotte, NC. The museum was the only venue we looked at and we fell in love! We kept the ceremony space simple with an encircling garland for the bride and groom and baby breaths on the aisle chairs.
Our reception was held upstairs in the grand ballroom. The ballroom has an amazing balcony that overlooks the city. My favourite thing at the reception, besides dancing with my new husband, was our cookie and coffee bar - our guests loved it!
After the reception concluded, Brandon and I had a glow stick exit down the front steps of the museum. Lastly, we took a 15 minute ride in a pedicab around downtown and finally landed at our favourite bar where our guests met up with us.
