The Big Question
Two weeks later we flew to Townsville to visit my family, and while we were there, Andy suggested a bush walk on magnetic island. We climbed out on some rocks and Andy nervously got down on one knee, I was in shock, and I think I said ok! He had secretly wrapped a bottle of champagne in the backpack and even though it was hot we did not care, it was an amazing day!
Shop 'Til You Drop
I had no idea what style of dress I wanted, but I was very clear on one thing, it needed to have a great back! I went on my own to White Lily couture, and the minute I tried on Jo I knew it was the perfect dress. I Skyped my sister in New Zealand, who wisely advised to take my time in making a decision, I had only just started looking.
I called her back half an hour later and she said, 'you bought it didn't you!' I had no regrets and when Georgie saw me in it on the day she confirmed I definitely bought the right dress!
The Perfect Day
It had been raining the day prior to the wedding and when the sun came out that morning I was so relieved. We were up in the Sunshine Coast hinterland and the rain brought out all of the greenery. I was very calm the morning of the wedding, but the minute I saw Andy standing in front of 50 of our closest family and friends I lost it.
It is amazing how the emotions overcome you. We had a beautiful ceremony under the jacaranda tree on Spicer's Clovelly estate, which was followed by champagne and the cutting of our cake, the cheese tower! It was a huge success. We wanted to make the whole day relaxed and fun for people so we strategically had each moment at a different part of the estate.
We got the speeches out of the way early, and then it was straight into a sit down one course meal of share roast platters! Each guest received a gift (gents received port and ladies received pashminas) with a personal quote. Andy and I spent many weekends pouring over quotes from all different sources, to find a unique quote that symbolised something we connected with on each person. The dance floor got started at 8:30pm, supported by our fantastic piano man, Graham Hobson, and we danced the night away.
I am a massive stresser so for me the most important thing was minimising stress to enjoy the day. I went with my instinct on booking suppliers that I connected with, super relaxed and good at what they do and then I trusted in them to do what they do best! So make sure you are comfortable with your suppliers, they really do help make the day so easy.
