Madison & Michael

The Big Question

Michael and I met in an eighth grade health class. He recreated this by getting me to come to West Point Junior High (where we went to school), without any clue about what was about to happen. He told me I was looking for a box that he needed me to pick up for him. When I couldn't find this box, I went over and asked a janitor for help. He says to me, "Are you talking about the guy who is proposing?" I say to him, "Wait, what?" His eyes widened, "Oh no, I think I just ruined the surprise!" Yup. He sure did.

When I walked up the stairs, there was a table with balloons and an old note I had written to him in eighth grade that said I would go out with him. From there was a trail of our memorabilia throughout the years. The path took me to the classroom where we met. He was standing in the middle of the room with an UP, the movie, adventure book ring box holder. That movie has had a lot of meaning to us over the years. He got down and one knee, and shaking, he asked me to marry him. I couldn't say yes fast enough.

Shop 'Til You Drop

I knew way before Michael proposed that I wanted to go to Alta Moda Bridal. I had been following them on Instagram and loved all their dresses. Each one was so different and unique. I didn't want to look like the typical 'Mormon' bride. So the morning of my appointment, I walked into Alta Moda with a certain dress in mind. It was the first dress they put me in. My mom was the only person I took to the appointment with me, and we both had the same look in mind.

When I put on my dream dress, I was a little disappointed, because it didn't wow me. However, the next dress was phenomenal. Every dress I tried on after that couldn't compare. I said yes to the second dress I put on.

Another piece to this story is the belt. I hated them. I swore I would never put a belt on my dress. But when my bridal consultant put this belt over my dress, I was crying. It made it. Together with the dress, belt, and veil, I was all too excited for my wedding day.

The Perfect Day

Our wedding day was perfect. That sounds a bit cliche, but it's the truth. I wouldn't go back and change anything. My family stayed in SLC overnight, so that we wouldn't be rushed getting to the temple. From the time my hairdresser came at 5:30 am, and throughout the rest of the day I had a smile on my face. After the temple sealing, my mom helped me into my wedding dress. I was on cloud nine. It was better than I had imagined. I don't think I have ever felt more beautiful.

Wise Words

To my fellow brides, I won't say not to stress. That's inevitable. But, if I had one piece of advice, it would be this: On your wedding day, just enjoy. If something doesn't go exactly the way you planned, roll with it. You only get one chance to get married. Smile, kiss your new husband, and dance in your dress. Feel like a princess, because it's your day.

I don't even remember the little things that went wrong. All I remember is the feeling of pure joy at the fact that I married the love of my life for eternity.
