Ellie & Leyton

The Big Question

Having been together for 10 years Leyton had become a firm part of my close knit family. We were on holiday with my family in the south of France, there was only one day we were all there together so a meal was planned in a near by restaurant. The family caught the bus to the restaurant to save my grandma walking and Leyton suggested we walk to get a some time alone together.

Along the coastal path at a viewpoint he got down on one knee and asked me to do him the honour of being his wife. When we arrived at the restaurant all my family were waiting outside, they all knew exactly what had been planned. The next surprise was his parents walking around the corner to join us! Absolutely beyond expectation!

Shop 'Til You Drop

The dress hunt started almost instantly, just me and my mum I made sure to look at lots of photos and to try on absolutely everything and anything to find the one I loved. I never believed I'd actually  have a "the one" moment. We went to local shops in Cardiff city centre, then went to some in Hereford, before a hunt in Bath, which is where I first saw Augusta Jones and loved the "Sofia" however I knew by this point I wanted a dipped back, this Sophia had a high back, just a minor detail but it was enough to make me want to keep looking.

We then went back to Cardiff, a shop we hadn't visited before, Laura May here I found "Sophia" with a dipped back - absolutely the perfect dress for me. It was the only dress I had goose bumps for and my mum had tears in her eyes. The tales of "you know the right dress when you try it on" definitely came true for me!

The Perfect Day

As a couple we've fallen in love with France as a holiday destination and a way of life with a cultural focus on quality family time, quality food and obviously quality wine. We decided we'd love to get married there and extend a wedding day into a wedding holiday with our closest family and friends. After an internet search of French chateau wedding venues, Leyton discovered Chateau Soulac near Saint Emillion, and nothing compared. We'd found our venue just 10 days after our engagement. We visited the chateau a few months later on a blustery winters day and it didn't fail to inspire us.

Our wedding started a week before the wedding day itself with family and friends joining us we relaxed and enjoyed the area, making the most of the beautiful Dordogne region mainly wine tasting tours! The wedding day itself started with a torrential thunder and lightening storm for the whole night before, providing some entertainment while none of us were sleeping anyway. We had a 3pm ceremony so all day my bridesmaids had to make sure bride and groom didn't accidentally glimpse each other! I thoroughly enjoyed a leisurely getting ready with my girls and my mum the build up was so exciting. In the same time Leyton and his boys played tennis and chilled by the pool for the morning.

We had 50 of our closest family and friends attend with the ceremony in a beautiful rustic barn, canap├ęs in the chateau followed by dinner and dancing in the reception barn. The afternoon was spotted with the occasional rain shower but this added to the excitement (and thankfully cooled off the 30 degree heat of the previous week). We were blessed with a gorgeous sunset which we all enjoyed before my dad and I opened the dancing leading into Leyton and my first dance! We had music provided by Mark Elliot which was absolutely fabulous. Our photographer was an expert at capturing the hidden moments not making the photographing boring or stiff, he felt like part of the group instantly putting you at ease! The day after the wedding we hosted a BBQ before we then road tripped down to the French Riviera for our honeymoon.

Wise Words

My words of advice would be to be organised early, think about the small details early and then relax to make the wedding stress free and don't let anything bother you on the day, it will be perfect no matter what!
