Jamie & Matt

The Big Question

Matt and I had been planning a 5 year anniversary trip to Charleston, which most people would assume would be perfect timing for a proposal. Matt spent weeks convincing me that there was no way he had enough time to buy a ring and plan a proposal so by the time we left for the trip I was 100% convinced we weren't getting engaged for a few more months. While in reality he had been going all over Birmingham, looking for the perfect diamond and setting.

We decided to be ultimate tourists and take a horse drawn carriage ride on Saturday afternoon. Halfway through the tour, we stopped at Battery Park and the guide said it was a great place for pictures. We walked over to the gazebo and Matt asked a mom and daughter to take our picture. He handed them my camera with a note stuck to it that read, "proposal pictures, please!" We took a normal picture, then he turned to me and said, "I know you said I couldn't surprise you, but..." He started to get down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I was so surprised I started crying! We got back on the carriage ride to go to a roof top bar to celebrate with drinks. When we got to the top floor both of our families were there waiting on us! We got to spend the rest of the night celebrating with our families and I couldn't have been more surprised!

Thirteen months before the wedding, my favorite dress shop in Birmingham, Carriage House, posted on instagram that they had an opening on Saturday. My mom and mother in law went with me and this was the first dress I picked out! I tried on a few there and a few at another store, but I knew from the beginning that Augusta Jones' Anita was my dress. I couldn't get over how beautiful the lace was!

The Perfect Day

Our wedding day couldn't have been more perfect. We got married in Mobile, AL on April 29th, 2017. The wedding party met up at the Ezell House, our reception venue, for pictures and we started with Matt and I's first look. The weather was very warm with a few dark clouds, but thankfully no rain!

We then went to The Steeple on St. Francis for family pictures and the beautiful ceremony. After the ceremony, Matt and I took an antique car to the reception while our bridal party took a white trolley. Our guests were able to enjoy cocktails at our open bar while Matt and I ate a quick dinner before our first dance. We had a lively motown band and everyone danced the night away! It was the best weekend ever and I wouldn't have changed a thing.

Wise Words

Doing a first look was the best decision we made for the whole day. We were able to share a special moment together before the day really got started and it made the day flow smoothly. We took every single posed picture before the ceremony so afterwards our guests didn't have to wait on us to finish pictures before enjoying the party.
