Victoria & Neil

The Big Question

Having studied Foreign Languages at University, my 3rd year of my degree required me to study abroad; Madrid for Spanish & Lyon for French. Some of my most memorable days and experiences are whilst living abroad & particularly Lyon. It was stressful at times but also. I know I was lucky to have experienced life like this; I used to go up to Fourvière Basilica in Lyon, to lose myself in the breath-taking views and reflect on everything going on, switch off from my studies. I wasn’t with my now husband during University but since we met, seven & a half years ago, I have mentioned numerous times of that beautiful spot & one day I wanted to share it with him.

So, last September 2016, after a charity car tour through Europe, we found ourselves with a few days to spare alone in France and so a night in Lyon was booked! Upon arrival, after some lunch, we ventured to our first port of call – Fourvière Basilica. Taking in the view which looks out to The Alps on a clear day, Neil was suddenly on one knee and popping the question to which there was only ever one answer; yes

Solely with my Mother, whom I trust implicitly, we went out to 3 different bridal boutiques; including low, mid & high budget range of designers across The Cotswolds. It wasn’t just the style & quality of the dress which was important but also the service & skill of the staff in each bridal shop.

I fell in love with the range of dresses on offer at The White Room; Lesley & Rachel who own the boutique are exceptional in their attention to detail, flare & enthusiasm around helping you find “the dress”. If it’s good enough for Zara Phillips, then my Mother & were certainly reassured by the high standards they set!

My absolute favourite dress from all the shops was the Augusta Jones one; the unique design, the stunning tattoo lace on the arms & back, the elegance it offered. 24 hours later, after very little sleep (dreaming about THAT dress), we were back in the bridal boutique & Mum was paying the deposit for my dress. Ecstatic! That moment started to bring everything to reality.

The Perfect Day

We got married at Orchardleigh, Frome, Somerset on Sunday 20th August 2017. It’s an absolutely stunning 1000 acre family owned estate. We fell in love with the intimacy & beauty of the venue, as well as being able to accommodate all our guests to stay. All food served on the day; wedding breakfast & canapés were made predominantly from fresh produce grown, bred & sourced from the estate itself.

Our wedding day itself was just perfect! Admittedly I did arrive 30 minutes late to church - oops! My Mother gave me away & the church was overwhelmingly packed full of our nearest & dearest. Not that everything went to plan AT ALL, however, all the incidentals are irrelevant & they all go towards making our day unique & unforgettable. The finale was certainly the fireworks & sparklers in the evening – I’d love to do it all again. It really was more than I’d ever hoped for and worth the months of planning.

Wise Words

When looking for your dress, go with an open mind; let the staff advise & guide you to styles they think will suit you, they are the experts. Ask for a ‘wild card’ option from the advisor which will be quite different from the styles that have caught your eye & you can try on. Don’t try too many on, it gets very confusing! Personally, one have 1 or 2 people with you as you go dress shopping – too many opinions could lose your focus.

Stay calm; it sounds silly BUT on the day itself, you have your closest friends & family there to ensure your day goes to plan & beautifully. If the schedule is running behind, don’t worry. Ours did but stressing about would have taken me away from enjoying it. You only have one wedding day, you can’t repeat it so smile, be yourself and make sure you eat!
