Danielle & Jordan

The Big Question

On December 30, 2015, we continued our four-year tradition by flying into New York City to embrace the holiday spirit. While in the city, Jordan brought me to one of my favourite childhood restaurants, The Palm, for dinner. I was so excited, but couldn't help but notice that Jordan was acting a little strange when he didn't touch his beloved crab cakes. I quickly brushed it off and assumed he was tired from travelling.

Little did I know he had something big planned! Shortly after dinner, Jordan nonchalantly asked the waiter to take our picture. I thought Jordan was getting up from the table to join me on the other side, but instead I realized he started getting down on one knee. I had absolutely no idea he was going to propose and it was the best surprise of my life! And of course (after a lot of happy tears), I said yes!

I flew home to the East Coast to try on wedding dresses, so that I could share the experience with my mother and sister. We decided to go to Kleinfeld Bridal in New York City because it has the largest selection of wedding dresses in the world. I used to watch “Say Yes to the Dress” religiously and I couldn’t believe I was actually going to be shopping in the same store! As soon as we walked through the doors, you could feel the magic in the air!

While I tried on other gowns, I knew in the back of my mind I really wanted to try on the “Skyler”. As soon as I stepped into the gown, I became overwhelmed with such an amazing feeling. It felt like the first time I met my husband. I instantly knew that this was the one for me. When I walked into the world-renowned showroom, my mother and sister were in awe and in tears! My bridal consultant placed a cathedral veil on me to tie in the entire look and when I turned around in front of the mirror, I was stunned by my reflection.

The “Skyler” became more than a dress, it became a symbol of love and I realized that I was really going to marry the man of my dreams. I was having my bridal moment. Next thing I knew, I was being asked Kleinfeld’s famous question, “Danielle are you saying yes to the dress?” and, without any doubt, I answered “YES!”

Augusta Jones is such an accommodating designer and truly believes in creating the perfect gown to meet a bride’s vision. I always dreamed of having buttons that cascaded all the way down a long train and to have a slightly lower neckline. Augusta Jones was able to make these customizations without any question.

The Perfect Day

On September 9, 2017, Jordan and I had the most perfect wedding day. We spent 21 months planning our wedding and I couldn’t believe the day was finally here! That morning, I was full of wedding jitters! To help calm my nerves, I was so grateful I was able to spend quality time getting primped and pampered with my mother, my sister (Maid of Honor), and all of my bridesmaids who travelled so far to be part of our special day. I also had my “first look” with my father, which was an emotional moment that I will cherish forever.

Later in the afternoon, Jordan and I were married at Saint Alphonsus Parish in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I’ll never forget walking down the aisle with my father and catching Jordan shed a little tear when he saw me for the first time. It was a magical moment. We were married by Father Patrick, who added lovely and personal touches to our ceremony. Our Catholic church is simply beautiful with its rich history and amazing architecture. Being married under overarching domes adorned with angels will always have a special meaning in our hearts.

Our guests were able to enjoy themselves during a cocktail hour as we ventured around Grand Rapids to take photos. We were so thankful that we had such a beautiful and sunny wedding day! Our favourite spot was in front of a weeping willow tree we found one day in a local park near our church. It gave an ethereal quality to our photos that truly reflected our wedding day.

Our reception venue was in the Ballroom at City Flats Hotel. With another nod to vintage charm, one could admire our venue’s original architecture from when it was bank in the 1920s. From our simple and chic centerpieces to our personalized rose gold touches, our reception’s ambience was classic and timeless. We couldn’t imagine having a better reception filled with love, laughter, and dancing. It was such a memorable and joyous occasion that we will cherish with family and friends forever.

Wise Words

Only a bride knows all of the effort, work, and hours that go into planning a wedding. It can be so easy to get caught up in all the minor details and to lose sight of what the wedding day is about. Pause and take a moment to take it all in. Just remember that at the end of the day, it is about the love that you and your partner have for one another.
