Kari & Stefan

The Big Question

Stefan and I had been together for about 4 ½ years when he proposed. We had been ring shopping a maybe a month prior to him proposing, so I was hoping he would “pop the question” soon.

Stefan knew how busy I had been with work, so he planned a date night for us. He picked me up right after work, but would not tell me where we were going. He told me to bring Kota, our dog, so I figured we would be doing something outside. We started driving towards the mountains (we live in east TN close to the Great Smoky Mountains). As we drove, I began to figure out we were headed to Cades Cove. About halfway through Cades Cove, Stefan told me he wanted to show me one of his favorite mountain bike trails (he’s an avid biker!). So, up the mountain we went.

We came to a clearing that overlooked Cades Cove and Stefan stopped the truck. He said, “We probably need to let Kota out.” So, I got out with Kota and walked him around, not knowing that Stefan was getting ready to propose. I literally turned around and there he was, down on one knee! I jumped backwards and started crying! Of course, I said, “Yes!” Stefan walked over to his truck and showed me his phone hidden in the door handle – he had recorded the whole thing and it was perfect!

Then he said, “Okay we have to hurry back to Knoxville – all of our family is waiting on us!” Our families were waiting on us at a local restaurant back in Knoxville. It was so special to share our engagement with them!

Shop 'Til You Drop

I did not waste any time searching for my dress! We got engaged on May 15, and I purchased my dress on June 1. I had a general idea of what I wanted in my dress; sweetheart neckline, fit and flare/mermaid style, and a train. I travelled to Atlanta to begin my dress hunt.

The first place we went, and where I purchased my dress from, was The White Magnolia. I also had an appointment at Bridals By Lori (I am obsessed with Say Yes To The Dress, so I was not going to pass up an opportunity to go to the shop!) So, we arrived at The White Magnolia (my mom, sister, and 2 close family friends) and I was so excited/nervous to start trying on gowns.

After about 20 minutes of picking out dresses to try, I began trying them on. The first dress I put on ended up being THE dress. As soon as I walked out in the dress, my mom, sister, and 2 friends immediately started crying! I thought, “Wow – this was pretty easy!” I was obsessed with the dress, I didn’t want to take it off! But, I kept trying other dresses on. While they were all beautiful, none compared to the first one.

The sales associate helped me pick out a veil and I put the first dress back on, and that sealed for the deal for me. Seeing myself as a bride was so overwhelming and exciting! I said, “Yes” to the dress, and we popped some champagne to celebrate!

I can honestly say the dress search was one of the easiest parts of the wedding planning process – the whole day was perfect!

Wise Words

Enjoy the process! I know it sounds so cliché, but try to enjoy every detail, even when things seem overwhelming! Everything WILL come together, whether it seems like it or not!

Enjoy the bridal showers, enjoy the planning, enjoy the time with family and friends, and enjoy the big day. It goes by SO fast; don’t get caught up in the small things that don’t really matter!
